Childhood stands for the right of every child to a childhood free from sexualised violence and abuse.
The World Childhood Foundation was founded in 1999 by H.M. Queen Silvia of Sweden to better protect children worldwide from sexual violence, exploitation and abuse, and since then we have been committed to putting the issue of sexualised violence and exploitation of children on the global agenda. Together with our sister foundations in Sweden, Brazil and the USA, we are committed to sustainably improving child protection - from grassroots work to the United Nations.
We are committed to ensuring that children affected by violence receive help and protection at an early stage and that their rights are comprehensively strengthened. Our work is particularly focussed on children who are at high risk of experiencing violence and abuse. Together with strong partners, we develop innovative protection concepts, close gaps in care, strengthen professionals and help to ensure that all children can grow up safely, protected and free from violence.
Our vision: A world in which every child can experience a safe and loving childhood.
Childhood House Munich - protection and help for children who have experienced violence
The Childhood Houses are interdisciplinary contact points for children and young people who have been victims of sexualised violence or other forms of violence. In a protected environment, affected children receive medical, psychological and legal help under one roof.
Close cooperation between the police, youth welfare office, medical, legal and psychological services avoids multiple interviews and minimises the burden on the children. The child is always at the centre of attention.
The Childhood House concept strengthens the support structures for affected children and families and sets standards nationwide in the provision of care following experiences of violence.
It also helps to actively promote systemic change in child protection and to strengthen children's rights in the long term.
"Every child has a right to protection, security and a childhood free from violence. With our work, we are committed to ensuring that affected children do not remain alone, but are seen, protected and strengthened in their rights."
Julia Woeste, Deputy Chairwoman of the World Childhood Foundation
